Do You Hear The People Sing
Modern Major General Lyrics
Through 40 years, this grand old choir has sung through years tumultuous
Mulroney through to Trudeau’s son, they could not be more dull to us
We’ve tolerated premiers from the Harrises to Nation Ford
The only way to sum up how we feel for these buffoons is “bored”.
This city fair has seen its share of more than one rapscallion
Despite it being led by just a Crombie and McCallion
There is small comfort in the fact that no matter how steep the slump
We’ve never made an error that compares us to the likes of Trump
Choir:
We’ve never made an error that compares us to the likes of Trump
We’ve never made an error that compares us to the likes of Trump
We’ve never made an error that compares us to the likes of, likes of Trump!
Solo:
And now we look ahead to decades full of song and so serene
And kick the rump of nasty chap known by the name covid 19!
So celebrate this special day with songs and friends along the way
And raise a glass, no, raise it higher to Mississauga’s Festival Choir!

Black Music Folder
Choir members will need to provide their own black folder or binder to hold
their music for concert performances. Photocopies can be hole-punched for
binder or stapled on the side to slip under the elasticized cord.
Original music should never be hole-punched. It can be slipped under the
cord, or onto a 3-ring magazine organizer strip. Music can also be placed in
the pockets of a folder, and you can slide out each piece as you need it...just
beware of dropping unsecured music. A black binder or folder is great, and
some members like to use the "Deluxe Black Folder" so here are some links and ideas for you if you'd prefer a choral music folder.

SILENT AUCTION
On April 20th we’ll be celebrating 40 amazing years of MFC at our anniversary gala. As you heard at Monday’s rehearsal, we’re holding a silent auction as part of the festivities.
Wondering how you can get involved? We’re inviting choir members to create experiences or services for gala goers to bid on. Here are some ideas; we know you’ll have many more:
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Door Monitors
There are still some time slots that need to be filled for this term. As the door at the church remains locked, we need someone to be at the door to open it as the choristers arrive. There two time slots that we need filled each week from 6:50-7:10 and 7:10 to 7:30. If you are interested in volunteering, please email our membership director Janice, or sign up at rehearsal on Monday. [email protected]
Lift Operators
We are also in need lift operators—it’s as simple as pushing a button! We can train you. There is the 7:00-7:30 time slot as well as after practice at 9:30.
The sign-up folder will be on the table on Monday with the attendance folders. If you could consider signing up for one or two time slots it would be greatly appreciated.
If you have signed up to volunteer, but can’t make it that week, please try to find a friend who would fill in. Otherwise email [email protected] so that your job can be covered. Thanking you in advance for your help.

BLACK MUSIC FOLDERS
Choir members will need to provide their own black folder or binder to hold their music for concert performances. Photocopies can be hole-punched for binder or stapled on the side to slip under the elasticized cord. Original music should never be hole-punched. It can be slipped under the cord, or onto a 3-ring magazine organizer strip. Music can also be placed in the pockets of a folder, and you can slide out each piece as you need it...just beware of dropping unsecured music. A black binder or folder is great, and some members like to use the "Deluxe Black Folder" so here are some links and ideas for you if you'd prefer a choral music folder.

Raising Voices
We are thrilled to bring back our Raising Voices Program this year after a 3 year hiatus! We are now seeking a small number of MFC volunteers to contribute to this wonderful music experience. We have limited volunteer spots this term based on a smaller group of ASP clients. But there will be a second term in the spring if you are unable to be part of the fall term.
What is Raising Voices?
Raising Voices is a choir that includes individuals with dementia including Alzheimer’s Disease, their caregivers, youth volunteers from Cawthra Park Secondary School and Mississauga Festival Choir volunteer mentors. It is offered free to all participants. Raising Voices is an initiative of Mississauga Festival Choir in close cooperation with Alzheimer Society Peel (ASP). An ASP music therapist works closely with MFC staff and volunteers to develop and deliver the program.
The choir is conducted by Bob Anderson and comprises eight weekly 75 minute sessions for two terms per year. Professional and volunteer participants facilitate carefully selected music from the broadway and popular music styles geared towards groups of individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
Raising Voices Important Dates
Mandatory orientation session for volunteer singers on Tuesday Oct 3rd from 6:30-7:45pm. Located at Alzheimer's Society Peel, 60 Briarwood Ave. Mississauga.

How To Have a Great Rehearsal
To perform well, a choir needs complete cooperation from everyone during rehearsals. An outstanding choir is one whose members observe the need to:
- Arrive at least 10 minutes early so that you are ready to sing at 7:30 p.m. Enter and leave the room quickly and quietly between songs if late arrival or early departure is unavoidable.
- Practice at home between rehearsals and arrive at rehearsal prepared.
- Be courteous to the rest of the choir and stay home if you are ill.
- Avoid wearing scented products.
- There are no assigned seats at rehearsals except for members who require special accommodation (e.g. for mobility issues). Be mindful of those requiring special accommodation and leave them a space.
- Welcome anyone who wishes to sit next to you. If you feel you must save a seat for someone else, help the person looking for a seat to find one and try to introduce them to the choir member(s) seated near them.
- Turn off electronic devices during rehearsals. (Exception: Use of devices for recording parts of the rehearsal for personal use with the consent of the Director and those around you is permitted.)
- When the director is working with another section, it is important to follow along, so you know how the other section is supposed to sound.
- Keep unnecessary noise to a minimum (side conversations, loud page turning, taping your feet, etc.) because this can distract others.
- Be kind to other choristers who may make mistakes or take longer to learn the music.
- When singing, ensure you are always facing the Artistic Director and that you are able to see him.
- Check the MFC website and read the MFC Newsletter to keep up to date and answer questions you may have. If needed, direct your questions to your Membership Representative.
- Erase markings and return your music promptly after each performance.
- Enjoy the music!
Our choir continually strives to provide a positive group experience for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, or require an exception please contact your Membership Representative.
